Selected Holes

Fifteenth

We have now arrived at Mere’s “famous last 4”
The 15th is a 393-yard par-4 and is tough from the first stroke – a dogleg left from a raised tee with a carry of more than 215 yards over a stream. It is out of bounds to the right and there are trees and bushes to the left, so accuracy is essential. Providing the water is cleared, the player then faces an uphill second shot to a large two-tier green guarded by bunkers left and right.

Sixteenth

Three-times Open winner Henry Cotton named the 441-yard par-4 16th hole at Mere as one of his all-time favourites. This is arguably Mere’s most picturesque hole but don’t be distracted by its prettiness – great care is needed. Out of bounds to the right, an accurate tee shot of more than 250 yards is required to reach the corner of this dogleg left. The two-tier green is well bunkered with a premium on accuracy required with the second shot.
